There’s an old adage in football from the late great John Madden that still rings true to this day, and he said “If you have two quarterbacks, you actually have none.”

According to ESPN’s Mike Greenberg, this is the situation the Pittsburgh Steelers are currently in despite being knee-deep in one of training camp’s most exciting quarterback competitions.

Greenberg recently appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and didn’t pull any punches when sharing his opinion on the Steelers’ QB situation, saying “The Steelers may have replaced one bad QB with two bad QBs.” and adding “The only quarterback who has been sacked more in the last two years than Justin Fields is Russell Wilson. They have the two most-sacked quarterbacks in the NFL.”

ESPN’s Mike Greenberg:

“I don’t think Brandon Aiyuk is gonna be traded at this point. If he was going to be traded, it would have happened already.”

He also destroys the Steelers QB situation:

Pittsburgh wasted no time this offseason getting rid of Kenny Pickett and letting Mason Rudolph walk in free agency so the team could start over under center, and bringing in a veteran like Wilson to a team that appeared to be a quarterback away from contention last season was a solid move, especially since the Steelers don’t have to pay him much money.

Bringing in Fields to learn behind him for a year or so was also a savvy buy-low move that could pay huge dividends if he can iron out some of the problems he showed with the Chicago Bears.

That being said, Greeny is right in the sense that both quarterbacks have massive red flags and haven’t been good at all over the past two years.

If they were, their former teams would have kept them.

John Madden might be right once again.
