After dealing with the aftermath of a very disappointing 2023 NFL season, with the team trading for superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers and seeing him go down with a season-ending injury in Week 1, the New York Jets made an effort to improve on both sides of the football and seem to have done that.
One of the most significant additions to the squad for the Jets was the team making a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles for star linebacker Haason Reddick, who was thought to be a drastic upgrade to an already fantastic defense led by Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams.
Unfortunately for New York, Reddick has been more of a problem and off-the-field distraction for the Jets rather than a considerable upgrade on the gridiron, as he wants a lucrative contract extension and held out of training camp, which has now bled into the NFL preseason.
Although it seems like a pretty big distraction for a team that doesn’t need one right now, former NFL head coach Eric Mangini believes it is not a distraction for the team because he’s never played a down for them via First Things First.
“This is not a distraction. You can’t miss what you don’t know,” Mangini said.
Is Haason Reddick’s trade request really a non-issue? Coach Mangini weighs in:

Mangini’s comment, at first glance, seems to be off because how couldn’t Reddick wanting an extension and recently issuing a trade request not be a distraction, especially in the city of New York?
However, he’s got a point because the linebacker hasn’t played a game, and a team can’t miss what they never had in the first place.
