After two forgettable seasons with veteran quarterback Russell Wilson leading the way under center, the Denver Broncos decided to make some drastic changes during the NFL offseason by parting ways with the one-time Super Bowl champion and moving forward with rookie Bo Nix, as the potential future face of the storied franchise.
Although Nix was the last of an NFL record six quarterbacks taken in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Broncos feel he can compete with the five quarterbacks taken ahead of him in terms of making an impact immediately in his rookie campaign.
Head coach Sean Payton seems to be very high on Nix’s potential to be great, with the comparisons to New Orleans Saints legend Drew Brees being made frequently since he was drafted.
Although it appears that Nix might have the starting job right out of the gate in the Mile High City, Payton has been reluctant to name him the Week 1 starter against the Seattle Seahawks.
On Up & Adams with Kay Adams, Payton was asked why he hadn’t named the rookie his starting quarterback with the start of the season just around the corner.
“The band’s still playing, they have one more song to go… and I’m not ready to do it with all the positions,” Payton said.
Why hasn’t #Broncos HC @SeanPayton named rookie 1st round pick BO NIX the starting QB yet??

The Broncos have two more preseason games to go before heading into Week 1 against the Seahawks in Seattle, with the team set to face the Green Bay Packers and Arizona Cardinals in consecutive weeks.
It’s safe to say that Payton wants to get a few more looks at Nix and fellow quarterbacks Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson before making his final decision.
