The Atlanta Falcons are officially in win-now mode.

Their move for Matthew Judon may have been a bit of a surprise to some, but it proves just how committed they are to making a big splash in Raheem Morris’ first year in charge of the team.

Notably, they weren’t Judon’s only suitor.

According to a report by Aaron Wilson of KPCR2, the Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, and Houston Texans also inquired about his availability.

Judon had been trying to get a new deal with the Patriots.

He’s going to make a $6.5 base salary in the final year of his current contract, and while he’s fully expected to get a new deal with the Falcons, reports state that hasn’t happened just yet.

Judon was reportedly very frustrated with the way the Patriots handled this situation, so even though he showed up to training camp and whatnot, he hadn’t been made available to the media and was reportedly just going through the motions in practice.

The 32-year-old is coming off a down year, making just four appearances.

Even so, he managed to get four sacks, logging 66.5 sacks in his eight-year career with the Baltimore Ravens and Patriots.

The Falcons needed to make a move to bolster their pass-rush after rookie EDGE rusher Bralen Trice was placed on injured reserve, and they got one of the best players available.
