This year’s incoming NBA rookie class isn’t exactly an impressive one or one that is loaded with talent and potential, but there are a few players who are intriguing and could turn out to be quite good.

One of them is Zach Edey of the Memphis Grizzlies, a behemoth center who was the No. 9 pick out of Purdue University in June’s draft.

While former NBA star Gilbert Arenas admitted he was skeptical about Edey, he feels Memphis is an ideal situation for him for multiple reasons, per The OGs Show.

Gilbert alluded to the fact that Edey, who is 7-foot-4 and at least 300 pounds, will allow big man Jaren Jackson Jr. to play his natural position of power forward.

Jackson played almost all of his minutes at the 5 last year, partly because Steven Adams was out all year after undergoing knee surgery.

Gilbert also said star guard Ja Morant will get Edey plenty of easy baskets and make life easier on the 22-year-old.

Edey averaged 25.2 points, which led everyone in NCAA Division I basketball, 12.2 rebounds and 2.2 blocked shots a game while shooting 62.3 percent from the field last season, and he’s seen as an immovable object in the paint.

However, critics say he’s too slow for the modern NBA, which could present problems on the defensive end, as well as for the Grizzlies’ offense.

The Grizzlies are a fast-break team, and if Edey is too slow to partake in that style of play, it could limit his success at the next level.
