Many NBA stars have celebratory dances or gestures they do when they score big shots during games.

But few have had one like former player Sam Cassell.

Speaking with Draymond Green, via The Volume, Cassell revealed how he came up with his memorable celebration, affectionately referred to as the “big balls” dance.

He said he was inspired by the film “Major League” and knew he was going to adapt the gesture for the basketball court.

However, it soon led to conflict between him and the league.

Cassell did that dance after clutch shots and gained a lot of attention for it.

Before long, NBA commissioner David Stern wanted to have a conversation with Cassell.

He said the gesture wasn’t appropriate for young viewers and Cassell would have to stop it as soon as possible or else face a fine of $25,000 every single time.

That was enough for Cassell, who canned the dance right away.

However, it lived on long after, and other stars like Kobe Bryant and even LeBron James busted it out over the years.

Cassell said seeing others performing the dance proved that he had made something special.

He has moved on in many ways since the days of that celebration.

After retiring as a player, Cassell became an assistant coach for the Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Clippers, and Philadelphia 76ers.

Starting last season, Cassell was an assistant for the Boston Celtics, a position he still holds, although he has been a rumored target for the head coach of other teams.

Because of his position as an assistant coach, Cassell isn’t able to get on the court and break out his unique, memorable celebration.

Plus, he’d probably get fined if he ever did.
