In the media world, sports networks tend to either give out raises if the company is doing well or fire people if the company is doing poorly.

That is the way it works.

ESPN, in its latest round of cuts, made the stunning decision to fire former Pro Bowl quarterback and analyst Robert Griffin III.

According to insiders Andrew Marchand and Barry Jackson, Griffin, along with studio host Sam Ponder, were let go as part of the network’s latest cuts.

“They will get their salaries they’re due. RG3 was replaced by Jason Kelce,” the Miami Herald columnist posted on social media.

Source confirms (as @AndrewMarchand just reported) that Robert Griffin III and Sunday studio host Sam Ponder were let go by ESPN in budget moves. They will get the salaries they’re due. RG3 was replaced by Jason Kelce on Monday NFL studio show, was paired with Wischusen on…

Griffin may look for a new opportunity at a new network in the future.

A Heisman Trophy winner at Baylor, Griffin played seven seasons in the NFL with three teams.

His best season in the league came as a rookie with the Washington franchise, when as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft he threw for 20 touchdowns and 3,200 yards, in addition to running for seven scores and more than 800 yards on the ground.

After his injury-riddled career ended in 2020, he joined ESPN as both an NFL and college football analyst.

One of the most talented dual-threat quarterbacks in the history of both college football and the NFL, Griffin has a talent for knowing and chatting about the game.

It will be interesting to see if a network takes a chance on him before the start of the upcoming season.

In his place at ESPN will now sit one of the greatest offensive linemen in NFL history, Jason Kelce, who will be a contributor on “Monday Night Countdown.”
