Every year, the NFL seems to make drastic changes to the way the game of football is played in order to either address injury concerns or make their product more entertaining from week to week during the season.
This year is no different, with the league choosing to make changes to the way kickoffs are done, which could result in special teams becoming a bit more important than it has been in years past.
With this new kickoff format, which will be used during the upcoming 2024 NFL season, kickers in the league have to mix things up and attack the play differently.
As arguably the best kicker in the NFL today, Justin Tucker of the Baltimore Ravens revealed he’s got some tricks up his sleeve about how he’ll adjust to the new rules, with the five-time All-Pro potentially going with eight or nine different kicks, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic.

With Tucker being the elite of the elite at his position in the NFL, it’ll be interesting to see what he does once the regular season gets underway for the Ravens on Sept. 5, when they will go on the road to face the back-to-back Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in an AFC Championship Game rematch at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
As every kicker in the league prepares for this new kickoff format, they won’t want to show their cards until the regular season starts, so there could be some interesting kickoffs in the first few weeks of the season as players adjust to the change and try to use it to their advantage.
