The start of the 2024 NFL season is rapidly approaching, with teams gearing up for another 17-game grind while trying to finalize their rosters and put the best team on the field for Week 1.
Although the San Francisco 49ers are arguably the best all-around team in the NFC right now and could make a case for being the best team in the league, the storied franchise is still dealing with an unresolved contract situation with star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.
The sides have been going back and forth in the negotiation process for months now and still have not gotten a deal done, with the 26-year-old requesting a trade because of the stalemate.
At this point, it could easily go either way before the start of the 2024 campaign, with Aiyuk getting traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers or another interested team or coming to terms on a lucrative long-term deal that would make him one of the highest-paid players at his position.
Former NFL star Greg Jennings of FOX Sports said he believes Aiyuk might be growing more comfortable with the prospect of staying in San Francisco as it could be the best situation for him moving forward.
“He is leaning towards, this might be where I need to stay,” Jennings said, via “First Things First.”

Things will get much more interesting for the 49ers in the coming weeks as a decision needs to be made at some point, with the Steelers waiting for an answer on their trade proposal and Aiyuk desperately wanting to get something done so he can concentrate on the upcoming regular season.
However it pans out, Aiyuk stands to benefit, as he’ll be in a good situation with either team while finally getting a new contract.
