It’s a bit of a shock that award voters were ever allowed to make bets on the trophies they help select.
But the NBA has changed this regulation and that should lead to a process that is even more fair.
The league awards are chosen by a wide selection of analysts and writers.
They are the people who watch every game closely, track the progress of players, and determine who is the very best when the regular season comes to an end.
As sports betting has become more popular, people have made millions of dollars by putting their money into just about any sort of wager.
In fact, there are already people betting on who will win NBA MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and more for the upcoming season, even though it doesn’t start for a couple of months.
The league wants to assure fans that the voting on these awards is monitored and completely fair.
This new rule will go a long way to do that.
Now that this change has been unveiled, people can start getting excited about who might take home NBA awards at the end of the 2024-25 season.
