All eyes on Pittsburgh Steelers training camp are focused on the quarterback competition between Russell Wilson and Justin Fields as many are still wondering if the team is committed to Wilson as the starter when Fields has a higher ceiling and has reportedly been impressive in camp.

Even with all that attention focused on the QBs, there is another positional battle going on where a standout rookie is making a strong case to start at a position that would have an impact on the QB battle.

According to Mike DeFabo of The Athletic, rookie second-round center Zach Frazier “got his most-extensive look with the first-team offense yesterday — and made his case to start Week 1.”

Frazier was the No. 51 overall pick out of West Virginia and is working to take the starting center job from Nate Herbig, who is currently managing an undisclosed injury and might not suit up for the next preseason game against the Buffalo Bills.

The Steelers offensive line hasn’t allowed their quarterback to take more than 40 sacks in a season since 2013, which is a huge plus for Wilson and Fields, who are by far the two most-sacked quarterbacks in the entire NFL over the past two seasons.

Herbig started the first preseason game, but his injury has left the door open for Frazier to take the job, and his impressive joint-practice performance against the Bills has had an impact on the coaching staff.
