While the San Francisco 49ers are trying to solve one contract issue with star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, they are also trying to solve one with star left tackle Trent Williams.
The 11-time Pro-Bowler is away from the team looking for a new contract.
Niners general manager John Lynch recently appeared on sports radio in the Bay Area (KNBR) to talk about the situation.
“Trent’s been away from us but the communication has been good there,” Lynch said “… Hopefully we can work through things and get Trent back here. … We’re working hard on that. … I know he wants to (get back here) and I know we want that.”

It is hard to find a more valuable left tackle in the NFL right now. Williams has been a First-Team All-Pro three years running and is a cornerstone piece of the team.
Without him, the 49ers are simply not as dominant on offense.
The 36-year-old must be looking for some stability and assurances as he looks to possibly end his career playing for the storied franchise. It should be noted that he does have three years remaining on his existing contract.
If the 49ers could find a way to get him back on the practice field with a new contract, it would be a huge win.
It would be even bigger if they figured out both Williams’ and Aiyuk’s contracts.
Those two players are massive pieces of the puzzle in Kyle Shanahan’s offense that cannot be overlooked.
Entering the 2024 NFL season, San Francisco has very strong title hopes that would only be strengthened with the return of both players.
