The NBA schedule was recently released and there are plenty of fresh takes from players and fans alike.

Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young is particularly upset that his team is not playing on one particular holiday.

“MLK disappointed in y’all NBA. I’m sorry Atlanta,” Young posted on social media in response to the Hawks not being chosen to play on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The three matchups on MLK Day (Monday, Jan. 20, 2025) include the Dallas Mavericks at the Charlotte Hornets, the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Memphis Grizzlies, and the Boston Celtics at the Golden State Warriors.

It is understandable that some players might be upset about not playing in front of the world on such a significant holiday.

For an All-Star like Young, he wanted to show off his team on a big stage.

However, the Hawks just aren’t a popular team at the moment.

Teams like the NBA champion Boston Celtics, the Stephen Curry-led Golden State Warriors, an up-and-coming Minnesota Timberwolves team, etc., are all more fun to watch, judging by the league’s decision.

If the league felt like Atlanta was one of the better teams, they possibly would have given more thought to putting it in this window of games.

The Hawks have posted a winning record just twice in the past seven seasons and made it beyond the first round of the playoffs once in the past eight years.

So, it’s not a shocker to see the Hawks without a game on MLK Day.
