The NFL can be absolutely brutal when it comes to players suffering injuries from game to game, and they are inevitable for every team due to the violent nature of the sport.

Even though the league continues to try to protect its players as much as possible with new safety protocols and gear, as well as rule changes, injuries can’t be eliminated and never will be.

Star players around the league can go down from time to time during the NFL preseason, which obviously consists of games that have no bearing in terms of wins and losses that count.

With these games essentially pointless outside of evaluating young players and getting veteran players up to speed, most aren’t fond of playing in them as it seems like an unnecessary risk.

Former NFL wide receiver T.J. Houshmanzadeh was asked what he thinks about legendary head coach Andy Reid playing his Kansas City Chiefs starters for the entire first half against the Detroit Lions recently, and he admitted he would disagree with it if he were playing for him.

“I don’t, but if I’m a Kansas City Chiefs’ player, I do,” Houshmandzadeh said on “Speak.”

Do you have an issue with Andy Reid playing his starters the entire first half in their preseason game against the Lions?

In fact, Reid’s decision did prove costly as the Chiefs lost wide receiver Marquise Brown to a shoulder injury on their first offensive play.

As back-to-back Super Bowl champions trying to become the first team to win three straight titles, playing Patrick Mahomes and company for an entire half against the Lions seemed risky.

As Houshmanzadeh pointed out, an injury to Mahomes or other big stars like Travis Kelce or Chris Jones could derail the Chiefs’ chances of making history.
