Justin Jefferson has been a quiet pillar throughout a tumultuous offseason from the Minnesota Vikings, and for the first time in his career, he will be catching passes from a new quarterback after Kirk Cousins signed with the Atlanta Falcons this offseason.

After rookie No. 10 overall pick J.J. McCarthy recently underwent season-ending meniscus surgery, it cleared the path for veteran journeyman Sam Darnold to serve as the unquestionable QB1 for the Vikings this season, and Jefferson recently revealed one thing that surprised him about his new QB.

When speaking with Diani Russini of The Athletic, Jefferson noted how surprised he was by Darnold’s arm strength, saying “This is my first time being around Sam and having him throw to me…especially the deep balls that he threw, it was right in the hands and it feels like a soft pillow” before adding, “He’s been doing a great job just trying to learn and trying to build that chemistry with the whole team.”

Jefferson is coming off the first injury-plagued season of his career as he played just ten games last season while still managing to put up 68 catches for 1,074 yards and five touchdowns.

With uncertainty surrounding Minnesota’s other top targets due to Jordan Addison’s minor ankle injury and T.J. Hockenson returning from a torn ACL, Darnold will need to lean heavily on Jefferson this year.

The McCarthy injury was tough, but Darnold was the projected starter anyway and it’s great to see him already building good chemistry with his new WR1.
