The San Francisco 49ers have the roster to compete for a Super Bowl, but are currently dealing with a couple of contract situations that could jeopardize their 2024 NFL season.
The most highly-publicized one is Brandon Aiyuk who has been in a contract dispute the entire offseason, though a resolution seems to be coming as the two sides have re-ignited negotiations.
However, Aiyuk isn’t the only member of the offense who could miss time during the regular season as Trent Williams is also holding out of practice and preseason.
Williams is widely considered to be the best left tackle in the game today and is seeking a contract that reflects that status.
So far, the 49ers have a deal on the table for Williams though it appears it isn’t to his liking.
There’s a growing sense that Williams will continue to hold out until there’s an adjustment made to the current deal via Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
“I’m told Trent Williams is playing golf right now,” Fowler said. “Like literally, he’s chilling. I’m told that if they want his services they need to adjust the contract. That’s just the way it is.”

This is completely normal for star players to do as they seek guaranteed money.
San Francisco understands what Williams means to their team and the two sides will surely meet in the coming weeks to get something done.
Both the running and passing games rely on Williams being on the field, and it should only be a matter of time until a resolution is reached.
