The Las Vegas Raiders needed a strong-minded man leading the way, and they got one.
The players rallied behind Antonio Pierce to make sure he didn’t get the same treatment as Ray Bisaccia and got an opportunity to be their next head coach.
Coach Pierce motivated the players and got them to believe in him right off the bat, and a big part of that has to do with the fact that he’s going to tell it as it is.
That’s why it shouldn’t be much of a surprise to see his rather blunt response when asked about the quarterback competition.
Both Garnder Minshew and Aidan O’Connell struggled in their second preseason contest, and Pierce admitted that as much as he wanted the evening to end well for both of them, it just didn’t (via The Coachspeak Index).

Minshew was erratic and missed more than half of his throws, failing to top the 100-yard mark despite going mostly against the Dallas Cowboys’ backups.
O’Connell was slightly more efficient and even threw a touchdown pass, but he also had a pick-six.
The Raiders are expected to name their starting quarterback at some point in the week, but the fact that it took them this long isn’t exactly encouraging.
This team should be stout and physical on defense, and that will always give them a chance to flip the field.
Still, it will mean next to nothing unless whoever plays quarterback for them is able to capitalize on the chances they get.
