The New York Giants are going to be heavily invested in the results of the 2024 NFL season as it’s a make-or-break year for Daniel Jones.
Jones is coming off a torn ACL that cut his 2023 NFL season short, but his rehab went well and he is back on the field.
However, Jones’s recent game against the Houston Texans in week 2 of the preseason left a lot to be desired as he struggled with his command of the offense.
Jones has always performed worse when under pressure and that was the case against Houston as he threw an ugly interception from New York’s own end zone that got picked off for a score.
He also threw another interception when targeting Jalin Hyatt, though that one was more defensible.
Head coach Brian Daboll discussed Jones’s game and acknowledged he still liked pieces of what he saw via Giants Videos.
Brian Daboll evaluates Daniel Jones’ first preseason game:
“There was two plays that we’d like to have back…he operated well in the pocket. Thought he made a lot of good decisions as the game went on.” pic.twitter.com/4vnOl6IcfP

Daboll explained that he thought the game was good for Jones to get re-acclimated to NFL speed as it’s different from what he’s seen in practice.
Daboll ended by offering some grace to Jones as it was his first time back playing since a long layoff.
It’s tempting to put too much stock into the preseason, but Jones should at least be given some slack as he works his way back from a serious injury.
