Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has a lot of money to spend and his desire to purchase professional sports teams has been an open secret for years.

But is he about to buy one of the most historic NBA franchises of all time?

According to Bill Simmons, per NBACentral, Bezos is a legitimate contender to buy the Boston Celtics.

“In the last few days there’s been some I think legitimate buzz about Jeff Bezos buying the Celtics, and I think it’s real. I think he’s gonna be one of the suitors,” Simmons recently said, per BASKETBALL On X.

Bezos obviously has enough money to acquire the Celtics but will this deal actually happen?

The Celtics’ ownership shocked everyone a few months ago when they announced they were contemplating a sale of their legendary team.

It was even more surprising because this news came just days after they won the NBA Finals.

It would cost a lot of money to get the Celtics but would also earn Bezos a ton.

The current value of the team isn’t known right now but it must be in the hundreds of billions and will only increase in the years ahead.

Bezos is a controversial figure and the idea of him owning the Celtics would upset a few NBA fans, but the current owners of the team are going to focus solely on the bottom line and what he will offer.

Simmons noted that Bezos would be just one of the suitors in contention for the Celtics, so he would have billion-dollar competition.

Who will come out on top and be the new owner of the reigning NBA champions?
