Tua Tagovailoa’s NFL career has been full of controversy and debates.
Regardless of how he fares, some people continue to question his talent and skills and whether he’s the right guy to lead the team to success.
Needless to say, that hasn’t changed in the slightest since he signed that new big-money contract.
More than that, it seems like even some within the Dolphins organization weren’t sold on him.
Recently, the Alabama product revealed the biggest difference between being coached by Brian Flores and Mike McDaniel, and he didn’t mince his words at all (Via The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz).
“If you woke up every morning and I told you that you suck at what you did, that you don’t belong, that you shouldn’t be here, that you haven’t earned this…
and then someone come and tells you, ‘You are the best fit for this…How you that make you feel?”

Tua called out Flores for telling him every single day of the week that he didn’t belong there and hadn’t earned the right to be there.
McDaniel, on the other hand, has uplifted him and let him know that he’s the best fit for their offense.
Per Tagovailoa, it wasn’t as much about Flores letting him know his flaws but about how that constant criticism could get into anybody’s head; it comes to a point where you actually believe it.
It also works the other way around with McDaniel.
Of course, everybody has different leadership styles, and all players react differently to criticism.
Some use it as fuel and motivation, while others don’t work that way.
Whatever the case, it’s more than clear that the Dolphins’ quarterback and Coach McDaniel have developed a close relationship, and that kind of QB-HC rapport could take any team a long way.
