During the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, history was made in the league as it was the first time that six quarterbacks had been taken in the first round, with quite a few of those six potentially being Week 1 starters for their respective teams.
As usual, the quarterbacks taken at the top of the draft received the most attention and buzz before, during, and after the draft came to an end, with Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye getting all the publicity and hype.
Although Williams is considered the cream of the crop and is expected to be a superstar on the NFL level while playing for the Chicago Bears, Daniels might not be far off as he begins his professional career with the Washington Commanders.
Like Williams, Daniels has been named the Week 1 starter for his new team, which seems like the right move. He has received a lot of praise throughout trading camp and the NFL preseason.
John Middlekauff of The Volume would go as far as to say that Daniels has already exceeded expectations for the struggling franchise and will be a rookie to watch moving forward.
“I’d argue the decision was made when they drafted him, but he’s exceeded expectations,” Middlekauff said.

Although Daniels has checked all the boxes and seems to be the real deal right now, he has yet to play a down in a game that counts on the NFL level, so he’ll have much to prove come Week 1.
The Commanders will kick off their 2024 campaign on September 8 when they travel to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at James Raymond Stadium.
