The Minnesota Vikings recently got dealt a tough hand this preseason after seeing rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy go down for the rest of the year with a torn meniscus.
That leaves veteran Sam Darnold as the team’s starter.
Former NFL GM and current ESPN analyst Mike Tannenbaum believes Minnesota should trade for a veteran quarterback, and the name that he brought up on Get Up today may surprise fans.
“A win-win here is to trade Russell Wilson to Minnesota. I think he’s a better quarterback than Sam Darnold,” Tannenbaum said.

Wilson is currently in a battle for the starting gig in Pittsburgh with former first-round pick Justin Fields, so a trade like the one Tannenbaum suggests might not be possible because Pittsburgh doesn’t even know who their starter is yet.
However, adding Wilson, who is on a one-year deal, could be a brilliant move on the part of the Vikings.
With the right signal-caller in place, Minnesota could be a threat in the NFC.
After all, they have stars all over the offense in the form of All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson, talented second-year pass-catcher Jordan Addison (10 touchdown catches as a rookie last year), Pro Bowl tight end T.J. Hockenson, and former Pro Bowl running back Aaron Jones.
Darnold is an experienced quarterback (56 career starts) but has a record of just 21-35 with 70 total turnovers in six seasons.
Bringing in one of the better quarterbacks of the last decade in Wilson could be the move if Minnesota wants to win right now.
Time will tell if a trade can be made or not down the road.
