The 2024 Olympics in Paris were once again a beautiful display of competition between countries all around the world in so many unique sports that has fans already excited about what’s to come in 2028 when Los Angeles hosts the next Olympics.
One new sport that will be added into the mix in 2028 is flag football, and the controversy has started early in regards to who will fill out Team USA’s roster as one flag football star QB isn’t going to simply cede his spot to an NFL star like Patrick Mahomes.
Darrell Doucette led Team USA’s flag football team to gold at the 2022 World Games and recently said he found it disrespectful that current NFL stars believe they can walk into the 2028 Games and simply take roster spots based on their names and reputations while also stating he’s better fit to lead Team USA than Patrick Mahomes.
“At the end of the day,” Doucette said to TMZ Sports, “I feel like I’m better than Patrick Mahomes because of my IQ of the game.”

It’s a strange situation, and Doucette is right to speak up for himself since this is a sport he has excelled at for years having already led Team USA to gold in a sport that Mahomes has technically never played.
Doucette clarified his earlier comments and said he believes NFL players should have to try out and earn their spots, which is a reasonable take to have.
That being said, there’s no way this doesn’t devolve into a controversy because if guys like Mahomes really want to play, it’s hard to believe the powers that be won’t find a way to get him on the team.
We’ve got to wait four years, but put a pin in this one, as things could get spicy.
