Bo Nix was the last quarterback taken in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, which turned out to be a historic day, as it marked the first time six quarterbacks were selected in the first round.
Despite using the No. 12 overall pick on Nix, it was uncertain whether the Denver Broncos viewed him as a project who needed development to get their starting job or a player who could be the leader under center come Week 1 on the road against the Seattle Seahawks.
Although Nix has been compared to New Orleans Saints legend Drew Brees, which certainly caught head coach Sean Payton’s attention, the jury was out on whether he’d be starting for Denver over Jarrett Stidham or Zach Wilson.
All of that speculation officially came to an end when Payton announced that the rookie had earned the Broncos’ starting job.
Over the past week or so, it started to seem inevitable that Nix would secure the job, and that’s precisely what happened, and now he’ll have a chance to prove his worth right from the beginning of his professional career.
Nix shared his reaction to getting the news with the media in Denver.
“I’m super excited, and I’m ready to get back to work again,” Nix said, via Mike Klis of 9 News. “Get back to it and start again.”

Nix will be one of a few quarterbacks who were taken in the first round of the draft who are expected to make their NFL debut in Week 1, as Caleb Williams (Chicago Bears) and Jayden Daniels (Washington Commanders) also have been announced as the starter for their respective teams.
Nix will have much to prove as the Broncos try to recover from the disappointing Russell Wilson era and get back to form as a force to be reckoned with in the AFC.
