Over the past year or so, things have gotten pretty rough for former first-round draft pick Daniel Jones with the New York Giants, as the quarterback has become public enemy No. 1 among the team’s fans for failing to live up to expectations, especially after getting a new contract before the 2023 season.

Excluding the 2022 playoff campaign, which was more of a team effort than anything Jones did on the field, the Duke University product hasn’t been great during his time in New York, leading many to believe it is time for a change.

Jones will be under tremendous pressure during the upcoming 2024 NFL season to prove his worth to the team, or New York may simply move on from him and look to the NFL Draft or free agency for a replacement.

As if the pressure wasn’t already mounting on Jones, New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner may have made matters worse as he found it hard to compliment the Giants quarterback after a recent joint practice, via Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team.

“I don’t even know what to say,” Gardner said as he struggled to find the right words.

With Gardner among the elite cornerbacks in the NFL, there’s no better judge of whether Jones is the real deal for the Giants, and the Jets star seems to have bit his tongue while trying not to trash the starting quarterback who shares MetLife Stadium.

At this point, it doesn’t seem like it will take much for the Giants to bench Jones if things get rocky early in the 2024 campaign, as rarely a good word has been said about him throughout training camp and the preseason.
