The New York Giants were unable to follow up an impressive first season for head coach Brian Daboll in 2022 with a solid campaign in 2023, as this once-promising squad looked like a shell of itself, which resulted in some significant moves being made during the offseason.
Two of those moves addressed both sides of the football, with the Giants selecting wide receiver Malik Nabers with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and bringing in two-time Pro Bowl linebacker Brian Burns via trade.
With the addition of these two players, the Giants have gotten better on paper, but it didn’t seem like it in a recent joint practice with the New York Jets, with Aaron Rodgers torching Daboll’s defense, according to Ralph Vacchiano of FOX Sports.
This is obviously just one example, and we’re not allowed to shoot any more video, but …
Aaron Rodgers and the Jets’ offense vs. the Giants’ secondary has not exactly been a fair fight in this joint practice so far. https://t.co/wmiuYXRCQ2

With the four-time NFL MVP under center and leading a Jets offense that could be a high-powered unit in 2024, the Giants were already in for a long day if he got going, and it appears that’s what he did.
It was a good test for the Giants defense as a measuring stick to see where it is, which appears not to be where it should be with only a couple of weeks left before the regular season gets underway when they host the Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 8.
Only time will tell if Daboll can get his defense on track in time for the opener and if the Giants can make any noise at all this season.
