After some debate, Denver Broncos head coach Sean Peyton has decided to make rookie Bo Nix their starting quarterback heading into the 2024 NFL season.
With the Broncos likely nowhere close to being able to contend for a spot in the Super Bowl, or even the playoffs, it is time to start playing for the future rather than fight for a shred of respectability right now by going with a veteran under center.
Nix will be the first Broncos rookie to start in his first regular season game since John Elway more than 40 years ago.
However, the Broncos legend said he believes Nix has what it takes to hold down the QB1 spot.
“He’s going to have his ups and downs as a young guy — I had plenty of those — but I think he’s got all the talent, will and mind strength to be able to do it,” Elway said, via Mile High Sports.

Denver selected Nix with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and after two dismal years with an aging Russell Wilson at QB, the Broncos are hoping it will be the start of an earnest return to being competitive.
The franchise, which has won three Super Bowl championships, hasn’t made the playoffs since winning the title in the 2015 season.
Nix had a sensational 2023 season with the University of Oregon, leading the NCAA with 364 completed passes and 45 passing touchdowns while setting an NCAA record with a 77.4 percent pass completion percentage.
Some have even compared him to Drew Brees, the former New Orleans Saints quarterback with whom Payton won it all during the 2009 season.
In Denver’s most recent game of this preseason, Nix completed eight of nine passes for 80 yards and one touchdown in a 27-2 win over the Green Bay Packers.
