When people talk about Kevin Durant’s time with the Golden State Warriors, they often speak of how he left the Oklahoma City Thunder for the team, and many claim he was simply chasing a championship ring.
However, Gilbert Arenas has a different perspective on this important period in the Warriors’ history.
Speaking on his show, per ClutchPoints, he claimed that the Warriors should be under more scrutiny for recruiting Durant.
“They are the [73-9] team… Everybody put the narrative on KD for saying yes and not the [Warriors]… Your guns weren’t big enough to beat LeBron James, that you got to go out and get a bazooka,” Arenas said, suggesting that Durant was brought in to save Steph Curry’s legacy after being defeated by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Warriors suffered perhaps the worst defeat in Finals history at the hands of LeBron James and his Cavaliers in 2016.
After that disappointing loss, they sought an improvement to their roster.
It just so happened that Durant was ready to say goodbye to OKC at that time and they were able to acquire him.
Many fans give Durant a hard time for joining Golden State after his time with the Thunder and they think he was in such dire need for a championship that he joined.
But Arenas feels both sides were desperate to win and needed one another.
In the end, they definitely did win a lot and claimed two back-to-back championships, with Durant being a focal part of those successes.
It ultimately doesn’t matter who recruited who – this period was hugely important for both the Warriors and Durant.
