The Washington Commanders recently traded for veteran kicker Cade York.
They sent a seventh-round pick to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for the former All-American.
In response to acquiring York, the Commanders have now made two corresponding moves.
According to the team’s social media page, they have signed safety Sheldrick Redwine and released kicker Riley Patterson.

Redwine, a former fourth-round pick out of Miami, is entering his sixth NFL season and will now be joining his seventh career team.
In total, he has 77 tackles. and three pass deflections in the NFL.
The Patterson angle might be a little more fascinating here, though.
A possible thought was that York and Patterson were maybe going to battle for the starting kicking job as the team heads toward the final game of the preseason.
Now that Patterson is gone, it appears to be York’s show.
Washington has been through quite the kicking rollercoaster this offseason.
They had originally signed former Super Bowl-winning kicker Brandon McManus, but he was released after sexual assault allegations came to light.
The team then brought in the veteran in Patterson to try and hold the fort down, but he ended up not being the answer.
With York now in the fold, he is going to have to bring consistency and stability to the position.
In his lone full season back in 2022, he went 24 of 32 on field goals and missed just two extra points, but he is going to have to improve a touch if he wants to keep his job longer than one season.
