A few days ago, there were rumors stating that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was interested in purchasing the Boston Celtics now that the team is for sale.
However, later reports stated that Bezos has no plans to buy the Celtics.
Speaking on NBC Sports Boston, Michael Felger and Michael Holley said they were disappointed that Bezos isn’t pursuing the team.
They both claim that from a media standpoint, Bezos buying the team would have been excellent.
He could have poured a lot of cash into the team, built a new arena, and radically improved the franchise in multiple ways because of his deep pockets.
“As a media guy, I’m disappointed.. in terms of copy and intrigue, Bezos would be tremendous.”

Bezos purchasing the Celtics would have been a massive news story.
Everything he does draws attention and his association with the NBA would have earned a ton of headlines.
Instead, he isn’t going to move forward on any plans for the Celtics, although someone else will.
The team is incredibly valuable and some billionaire, or group of them, will sign the paperwork soon.
It’s a brilliant business move because the Celtics will be worth even more in the future, even though they are so valuable already.
Although Felger and Holley are bummed that Bezos isn’t involved with the team, other fans are glad.
Bezos is a controversial figure and some would be unhappy with him getting involved with the team.
But just because he isn’t going to acquire the Celtics doesn’t mean he won’t move on to another team, perhaps in another sport, in the future.
In fact, every time a big team is on sale, you can expect to hear Bezos’ name.
