Just before Game 2 of the NBA Finals, Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd raised a ton of eyebrows when he said that Jaylen Brown was the best player for the Boston Celtics.

Although many people agreed with him, others felt that Kidd was attempting to drive a wedge between Brown and Jayson Tatum with his words.

Now, Kidd is fighting back against that claim.

Speaking with NBC Sports, Kidd said he wasn’t attempting to disrupt Boston’s chemistry.

Instead, he was simply stating his opinion: he felt that Brown was playing the best basketball on the team at the time and deserved all the praise he was receiving.

Kidd pointed out that he wasn’t the only one blown away by Brown.

Brown had already claimed Eastern Conference Finals MVP when Kidd made his statement and he would later earn Finals MVP too.

He was on an incredible run and was truly a vital part of the Celtics’ march to the Finals.

Brown averaged 20.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5 assists during the championship series against the Mavericks.

He was already a cherished NBA star but his time in the playoffs earned Brown even more praise.

Now that he’s a Finals MVP and champion, Brown hopes to return in the new season playing just as well as he was then.

Things might be tougher for the Celtics in 2024-25 because the rest of the NBA will be trying to defeat them.

They have big targets on their back but they feel prepared for that.

Plus, if Brown is performing like he did in the playoffs, it’ll be very hard to slow this team down.
