No one, not even the most polished NFL prospect, has mastered the game in day one.
All rookie players go through growing pains, whether it’s in training camp or on the field.
Caleb Williams wasn’t the exception to that rule.
He had a somewhat tough start to training camp with the Chicago Bears, and he clearly hasn’t forgotten about that.
That was on full display on the latest episode of Hard Knocks, when Williams told HC Matt Eberflus that the biggest takeaway he learned from his preseason game vs. the Buffalo Bills was that practice was harder than an NFL game (via Ben Devine).

Of course, several young players say that in the preseason just to realize how much more difficult things are when it actually counts, but still, Williams looked unfazed.
Notably, he looked very good in his second taste of NFL action, overcoming a slow start vs. the Cincinnati Bengals to showcase why scouts were so high on him during his days in college.
The Bears hope that Williams will be their savior, and there’s no reason to think that won’t be the case.
While he’s clearly very confident in his game, he’s also coachable and has a desire to be great, and that often makes a big difference in prospects who seem to be very high on themselves.
Williams will be hard-pressed and tested from day one, but if he keeps this demeanor, he’ll hit his stride right out of the gate.
