Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson is looking for a rebirth in the Steel City.

After a couple of disappointing seasons in Denver with the Broncos, Wilson is now on a one-year deal and in the midst of a quarterback battle with former Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields.

Former NFL wide receiver and current ESPN analyst Andrew Hawkins believes Wilson’s future as a starter could be in trouble if he doesn’t win the starting job.

“I feel like Russell Wilson’s future as an NFL starting quarterback is on the line throughout the rest of this training camp,” Hawkins recently said on Get Up.

It seems as though the nine-time Pro-Bowler is a ways away from what he was in Seattle for a decade.

Once one of the elite quarterbacks in the NFL, the 35-year-old is now battling for his career.

As Hawkins illustrates, the former Super Bowl champion has to come out and play well in the team’s final preseason game this weekend.

Otherwise, a younger, more athletic Justin Fields might take the reigns as the starter.

If Wilson loses this starting job to a quarterback like Fields, who is just 10-28 as a starter in the NFL, he may never get another opportunity to play meaningful snaps in the league as a starter again.

He has not eclipsed over 4,000 yards since 2020 and has 26 turnovers in total over the last two seasons.

But, perhaps winning this starting quarterback gig could help launch the former NFL Man of the Year into a better situation this year on a better team if he plays well.
