Jalen Brunson has turned into a superstar for the New York Knicks.
He was viewed as one of their key pieces heading into the 2023-2024 season, but nobody could have predicted his meteoric rise to elite production.
He was a massive reason for the Knicks making it to the Eastern Conference semifinals and will be a cornerstone of the organization for the foreseeable future.
Brunson is a decent defender as well, but his main asset to the team is his ability to get open and create shots for himself.
With this in mind, he was recently asked about Kobe Bryant, and what he would do to guard him, should he have gotten the opportunity.
In Brunson’s response, which was shared by the NBA, he said, “I would call timeout and tell coach to put someone else on him.”

While this comment was said in jest, Brunson also seemed relatively serious.
Bryant is one of the best players in league history, and he was nearly impossible to stop at the peak of his career.
His ability to hit step-backs and the amount of athleticism he possessed will not soon be forgotten.
Brunson seemingly would have difficulty guarding him, as did Bryant’s opponents when playing.
It can be exciting to talk about what-ifs and other hypotheticals like this, but Brunson and his teammates need to start focusing on the upcoming NBA season, hoping they can turn things around after a disappointing end to last season.
