Stephen A. Smith spent many years on television eviscerating Skip Bayless for his pro-Dallas Cowboys takes and laughing at the team’s pain year after year as they fell short in the playoffs.
This year, he isn’t sure they will even get that far, and he said there is no guarantee of a playoff berth in the future.
In a recent episode of First Take, Smith said “I don’t think you can guarantee that they’re a playoff team…I expect the Eagles to win the NFC East” before he said how messy the wild card picture can get with the Los Angeles Rams, Atlanta Falcons, and either the Detroit Lions or Green Bay Packers likely taking one of the spots as well.

Smith expounded on his point by questioning the depth of the team’s offense, particularly at the running back spot and the wide receiver depth behind CeeDee Lamb.
He also mentioned that seven of the team’s first ten games are against teams that made the playoffs last year, so if they’re simply good and not great, it might not be enough.
It’s a fair point, and fans know that the balance of power in the NFL can shift drastically from one year to the next, so you can never assume any team is a lock to make the playoffs.
Missing the playoffs would likely be all it takes to usher in some massive changes in Dallas with head coach Mike McCarthy and quarterback Dak Prescott both in the final years of their respective contracts.
