Just last offseason, the Indianapolis Colts took a big chance on Anthony Richardson, taking him with the No. 4 pick.
Richardson was a polarizing prospect.
His athleticism, strength, and speed were off the charts, but his lack of experience and some accuracy issues were a bit of a concern.
Not to Shane Steichen.
Richardson looked impressive in limited snaps in his rookie season, as injuries kept him on the shelf for most of the campaign.
That’s why, now that he’s back to full strength, it would have to take a lot for the Colts to consider another option at quarterback.
However, that’s not how Kirk Herbstreit feels.
During the Colts’ preseason finale, the renowned analyst stated that it wouldn’t be shocking to see the Colts considering Joe Flacco to sub in for him if he struggles (via Awful Announcing).
Early in the second half, Kirk Herbstreit speculated on a possible QB conflict in Indianapolis between Anthony Richardson and Joe Flacco.pic.twitter.com/AxTlnuRy4H

Needless to say, it didn’t take long before the fans called him out on social media.
They’re living and dying by Anthony Richardson. That’s what they drafted him top 5 for. He either sinks or swims and you live with it.

“You know what you’re gonna get in Joe Flacco”

Truth be told, the chances of 39-year-old Joe Flacco benching Richardson are slim, to say the least.
The Colts have made Richardson their franchise player, and even if he struggles in his first full season as a starter, chances are that they would still stick by him for at least another offseason.
There should be no debate about the quarterback position in Indianapolis, especially not between Flacco and Richardson.
Flacco is a proven veteran, but his best days are clearly behind him, and the Colts are looking to build something sustainable for the future.
