Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Mac Jones is looking to reestablish himself as an NFL quarterback after his tenure as the starter with the New England Patriots ended unceremoniously during a brutal 2023 campaign.

Now blessed with a chance at a fresh start in a new city and with less pressure on him, Jones has gotten off to a hot start in Jacksonville this preseason by going 38-of-52 for 421 yards and three touchdowns with no picks so far in the preseason, and head coach Doug Pederson had plenty of thoughts on his performances so far after Friday’s 31-0 preseason victory over the Atlanta Falcons.

ESPN’s Mike Reiss shared a quote from Pederson saying, “Mac has played extremely well in the last couple of weeks and has really bought into what we do. He’ll still revert back to his Patriots ways every now and then, and we have to remind him he’s in Jacksonville. But he’s done a good job managing and running the offense, getting everybody involved. He sees the field well, throws a good ball, so he’s done a good job.”

Jaguars coach Doug Pederson on backup QB Mac Jones through 3 preseason games: (38-of-52 for 421 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INT, 4 sacks):

It’s unclear what he meant when he referred to him reverting back to his Patriots ways, but Jones would be wise to listen to a man who won a Super Bowl over those Patriots with a backup quarterback a few years ago.

All the pressure is off Jones now that he has no path to being a starter since Trevor Lawrence is signed to a $275 million deal, but there’s a reason he was a first-round pick and thought so highly of just 2-3 years ago.

Hopefully, Pederson can help him remember who he is.
