We’re just a couple of days away from the NFL’s deadline to trim the roster to 53 players.
The Chicago Bears, however, might not be that sold on their defensive line just yet.
For the second time in as many days, Matt Eberflus’ team has acquired a defensive lineman.
Shortly after sending a sixth-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks to get DE Darrell Taylor, they decided to send another to the Cleveland Browns to get DT Chris Williams and a seventh-round pick (via Ian Rapoport).

Williams provides them with more depth in the middle of the line, which is a big boost as Zacch Pickens’ status still seems to be up in the air after leaving practice last week.
Even if he’s healthy, the Bears don’t have many rotation pieces on the interior of the defensive line, so adding more players made sense there.
Williams arrives in the Windy City entering his third season in the league.
Thus far, he’s only been able to make 13 appearances, staying on the field for just 107 defensive snaps and logging one QB hit and six tackles.
He’s familiar with Matt Eberflus from their days together with the Indianapolis Colts.
Williams entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and spent that season on the Colts’ practice squad before making the roster next season.
Then, he went through training camp before landing with the Browns
