The Cleveland Browns offense hasn’t looked like what the organization was hoping for during preseason, though that can largely be attributed to the team sitting out its key pieces before the 2024 NFL season starts.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski is playing it smart by resting his regulars to avoid unnecessary injuries.
Cleveland is coming off an injury-riddled 2023 NF L campaign where they lost several of their cornerstone players including quarterback Deshaun Watson.
Watson missed the second half of the year due to a shoulder injury, but was a full participant in training camp and practices.
Watson hasn’t suited up during the preseason but it appears he’ll be ready to go for Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys via Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
“#Browns QB Deshaun Watson will not play tonight against the #Seahawks, as the focus shifts to the beginning of the regular season. Watson missed time this week because of arm soreness, but did a full practice on Thursday. He’ll be ready for Week 1,” Rapoport reported.

The news of arm soreness was a bit concerning at most, but it sounds like the Browns were simply limiting his reps to ensure he’s fully healthy for their first game of the year in a couple of weeks.
Although Watson hasn’t looked like the elite signal caller Cleveland’s been hoping for, he still represents their best chance of competing in a loaded AFC that is home to several Super Bowl contenders.
This upcoming year will be a big one in determining whether or not Watson is the right man for the job.
