The Carolina Panthers are projected to finish the season with the worst record in the NFL.
That’s not particularly encouraging for a team that has a former No. 1 pick behind center.
Bryce Young’s first season in the league was quite underwhelming, and there will be no margin for error in year two.
That’s why the fans were delighted to watch him play so well in his lone drive of the preseason finale vs. the Buffalo Bills.
As pointed out by ESPN BET on Twitter, the Alabama product completed eight of ten passes for 70 yards and a score.

Hiring Dave Canales was a big step in the right direction, as he’s earned a reputation for being a QB whisperer after turning Baker Mayfield and Geno Smith around.
Canales has put an emphasis on simplifying the team’s offense to make Young’s work easier, and the Panthers have some new offensive weapons that could also play a big role in that.
It’s not fair to count out a quarterback after a rough rookie season, and the Panthers didn’t particularly put Young in a position to succeed during Frank Reich’s brief tenure in charge of the team.
But if things don’t look better early on in his second season, even if the rest of the team doesn’t play well, that could lead to some tough conversations regarding Young and the big trade they made to get him.
