With the final roster cuts just two days away and with no job security whatsoever, not many NFL quarterbacks would be a lock to make the roster after throwing five interceptions against backups.
Needless to say, not many teams are run by a single decision-maker, which also happens to be the team’s owner.
That’s why it’s not much of a surprise to see that, despite an abysmal performance, Trey Lance will most definitely make the Dallas Cowboys’ 53-man roster.
As reported by Nick Harris on Twitter, Jerry Jones made it loud and clear that Lance, who he traded for last season, would make the roster.

Lance is 24 years old and clearly has a higher upside than Cooper Rush, who’s also battling to be Dak Prescott’s backup, but he hasn’t done much to show he belongs.
He alternated some exciting plays with some very bad decisions, and throwing five picks against second and third-stringers isn’t exactly promising.
Even so, Jones likes him, and that’s all that matters in Arlington.
Dak Prescott will play this season, the final in his contract, and then test free agency next offseason.
The Cowboys don’t seem to be committed to bringing him back, and while he’s certainly laid his own bed with his subpar performances vs. winning teams and in big moments, he’s still the best choice they have right now.
The future in Arlington is uncertain, but one thing’s for sure: Trey Lance will be out there on the sidelines, at least to start the season.
