One of baseball’s main quirks is even though the MLB is almost 150 years old and each team plays 162 games a year, you could turn on any game at any given time and see something you’ve never seen before.
Boston Red Sox catcher Danny Jansen is set to give fans something they have never seen before on Monday when he is set to make MLB history.
MLB Scoring Changes shared its excitement when it found out that Sox manager Alex Cora announced that on Monday for the resumption of the 6/26 game against the Toronto Blue Jays that was postponed, Jansen will substitute in for Reece McGuire at catcher since McGuire is not on the current roster, meaning Jansen will become the first player to play for both teams in the same game in MLB history.

Jansen will catch the at-bat that he himself started when he was with the Blue Jays, and therefore he must be pinch-hit for.
The Red Sox acquired Jansen at the trade deadline while designating McGuire for assignment, and the backup catcher has posted a .718 OPS since being acquired.
Jansen was in Toronto’s lineup on June 26th and was set to take his first at-bat before the game was called and later pushed to a split doubleheader for this coming Monday.
The catcher is reportedly excited about making history, saying “Definitely grateful. Honestly, when I heard about it, I didn’t think I would be the first. The game has been around for so long. It’s one of those oddities that happen in this sport. It’s extremely rare and cool.”
