After NBA free agency essentially came to an end this summer, with all the big-name players having signed with new teams or re-signed with their current squads, all the attention turned to players on the trade market who could potentially be game-changers, with one notable player making more headlines than any other.
The Utah Jazz seemed very open to trading star forward Lauri Markkanen, with the consensus being arguably the team’s best player would either remain with the team by signing a lucrative long-term deal or being traded to a squad hoping to contend or at least put themselves in the playoff picture.
The Golden State Warriors emerged as the most likely destination for Markkanen, with the team trying to figure out how to remain competitive in the Western Conference after star guard Klay Thompson chose to sign with the Dallas Mavericks in free agency.
The San Antonio Spurs were also rumored to be interested in Markkanen but likely never made a serious offer that Utah considered, which did not matter because the 27-year-old ended up staying put.
Now that Markkanen’s long-term future is secure with the Jazz, the one-time NBA All-Star seems to be enjoying life, as he showed off a fish he caught on Twitter while sporting a Utah shirt while fishing in the state.

Although the Jazz aren’t expected to make a lot of noise in the West moving forward, they will likely begin to build around Markkanen as best they can in hopes of turning things around in Utah.
It’ll be interesting to see whether Markkanen takes his game to another level with the Jazz next season or ends up being another good player on a forgettable team.
