The New England Patriots were bullish on Drake Maye in the 2024 NFL Draft, using the No. 3 overall pick on him.
Maye was a polarizing player heading into the draft, and many analysts were torn on his potential career ceiling.
Training camp and the preseason have been a rollercoaster for him.
He has looked great in some instances, and in others, he has seemed rather uncomfortable.
However, in the team’s final preseason game, Maye came to play, putting up his best performance to date.
With that in mind, Louis Riddick had just three words for the Patriots, as he said on Twitter.
“Start. Drake. Maye.,” Riddick exclaimed.
Start.
Drake.
Maye.

While it might seem like a no-brainer to start a player they used a significant amount of draft capital on, teams are starting to get more cautious with their first-round quarterbacks.
There is a movement to try and wait a few games, or even an entire season, to let players get acclimated to the ways of the NFL.
For teams like the Patriots, it might be better to see what they have with Maye rather than continuing on the path they are on.
Plus, Jacoby Brissett went down with a shoulder injury in their preseason finale, and his return to the field is now unknown.
At this point, Maye does seem like their best option, as he is not only healthy but looks ready to take over this opportunity and run with it for the foreseeable future.
