Steve Nash Gets Honest About Failed Tenure With Nets

The Brooklyn Nets had a good coach in Kenny Atkinson.

Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant reportedly didn’t trust Atkinson to be who they needed to find success, and you cannot have your two best players openly disrespecting their coach.

Unfortunately, that decision to do what they said was just the first in a string of dreadful moves by the organization.

Steve Nash looked in over his head more often than not, and he didn’t seem to have the players’ ear either.

Now, looking back to that failed stint, the legendary point guard admitted that it was just a nice experience and he never envisioned himself as a lifelong coach (via Eurohoops).

“Coaching was a great experience, I didn’t want to be a career coach. I don’t think coaching was about to be my career.,” Nash said.

Truth be told, giving a potential championship contender to a first-time coach wasn’t the wisest call, not even if that coach was one of the greatest basketball minds the game had ever seen.

Even so, doubling down on their commitment to Durant and Irving was what eventually sealed the Nets’ fate, up to the point where they couldn’t move on from them fast enough.

Fortunately, with the Mikal Bridges trade, they’ve finally recouped some assets and are back on track after such a dark tenure.

As for Nash, it doesn’t seem like he’s eager to return to the coaching seat any time in the foreseeable future, at least for now.
