Last season, the Detroit Lions headed into the 2023 campaign with high hopes of finally being able to break out and become one of the best teams in the league, as they had the talent on the football field and the leadership on the sideline to get it done with head coach Dan Campbell.

Although the Lions have had it rough for a very long time, which leads to a lot of pessimism and doubts about a promising season, Detroit not only lived up to expectations in 2023 but surpassed them as well, having the best year in the franchise’s history.

The Lions were able to dominate the competition throughout the regular season with a high-powered offense led by Pro Bowler Jared Goff under center and talented weapons at his disposal like wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown downfield and running backs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs coming out of the backfield.

Detroit came one win shy of making it to the Super Bowl as they couldn’t overcome a resilient San Francisco 49ers team in the second half of the NFC Championship Game, but that has led to some serious optimism heading into the 2024 NFL season.

With the Lions having Super Bowl aspirations this year, the team wants to put the best roster on the field come Week 1, and that doesn’t include veteran wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones, unfortunately, who was cut on Monday, according to Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz.

It appears there wasn’t enough ball to go around in the receiving corps, which is pretty talented, with St. Brown and tight end Sam LaPorta leading the way for the Lions’ passing game.

Last year, Peoples-Jones played in only eight games for the Lions, catching five passes for 58 receiving yards.
