The New York Giants looked like a storied franchise that was back on the rise after the 2022 NFL season, as the team seemed to have brought in the right man for the job of leader on the sideline in head coach Brian Daboll and was getting solid production from their players on both sides of the football.
Things were going so well for the Giants heading into that NFL offseason that New York decided to sign quarterback Daniel Jones to a contract extension, which now is starting to look like one of the worst decisions the franchise has ever made at the most important position on the football field.
Jones has done virtually nothing to live up to his extension, and to make matters worse; the Giants lost superstar running back Saquon Barkley during this past NFL offseason to the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles because they didn’t want to pay him his asking price.
That said, the Giants have gone from a promising team on the rise to a potential dumpster fire of a franchise with little hope of turning things around in 2024, especially with Jones still being the starting quarterback under center.
With Jones looking like he’s reached his ceiling, former NFL star turned analyst Mark Schlereth believes the Giants will turn to backup Drew Lock before the halfway point of the 2024 campaign via Breakfast Ball.
“Drew Lock will be the starting quarterback after Week 6,” Schlereth said.

This could very well be the case for the Giants if things aren’t trending up after the first six weeks of the regular season, as Daboll might be coaching for his job, and the team may need a boost, especially if rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers starts to express frustration about Jones.
The Giants will be a team to watch in 2024, but it might be for all the wrong reasons, as many believe it could be another ugly season for Daboll and company.
