NBA fans are in for a real treat this fall, thanks to Netflix and the participation of five of the league’s biggest stars.
On Wednesday morning, the streaming giant announced “Starting 5,” a new docu-series that follows the careers of five basketball stars as they play through the 2023-24 season.
The short promo for the show features Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics starting a group chat with four other players: Jimmy Butler, Anthony Edwards, LeBron James, and Domantas Sabonis.
These five athletes will be the stars of the show, which is set to premie on October 9.

The series has been in the works for a while but this is the first look at it and what it’ll be about.
The tagline says, “Five journeys. One season. All Access.”
Netflix has been advertising the fact that they got behind-the-scenes access to all of these players during the season.
From beginning to end, cameras followed Tatum, Butler, Edwards, James, and Sabonis as they fought for a championship.
Of course, only one came out on top.
The fact that Netflix was filming Tatum during his first successful championship run was a brilliant stroke of luck for the company.
They will be able to show him power past the rest of the competition on the way to his first ring.
But there was ample drama with all of these stars and everyone has a storyline worth following.
This could be a legendary sports series.
And if it’s successful, Netflix will definitely follow it up with more seasons.
The show begins streaming on October 9, just days before the new NBA season kicks off.
That means that October will be a great month for basketball fans.
