DeMarcus Cousins was a force to be reckoned with during his time in the NBA and was influenced by many stars who came before him.
He recently said that Carmelo Anthony was his favorite player and the reason he wore the No. 15 on his jersey.
Speaking on “7PM in Brooklyn”, Anthony responded to that praise and referred to Cousins as a “nephew” who was incredibly close to him.
Anthony said he loved watching Cousins develop as a player and viewed him as a surrogate son who he remains proud of.
“That’s nephew right there.”

Cousins and Anthony spent time together playing with Team USA and it was there they grew close.
But even before that time, Cousins was watching Anthony and taking notes about his style.
That is somewhat surprising considering they are very different players.
Anthony is more focused on ball-handling and shooting while Cousins used his size and strength to his advantage.
Regardless of their differences, Cousins was still greatly influenced by Anthony and wanted a career like his.
Both of these players are no longer in the NBA but remain closely linked to the world of basketball.
Cousins continues to play overseas while Anthony pops up on numerous podcasts, including his own.
Their time playing in the league might be over but they are still NBA icons.
Cousins clearly studied many NBA players before he entered the league but says Anthony was his favorite.
That is a huge honor for Anthony, who is sharing his love for Cousins as well.
