The Minnesota Vikings are adding another veteran quarterback to the room just before the start of the season.
According to ESPN insider Kevin Seifert, the team is signing QB Brett Rypien and waiving second-year quarterback Jaren Hall.
“Another veteran behind Sam Darnold and Nick Mullens,” Seifert wrote on social media.
A surprise: the Vikings are signing QB Brett Rypien and waiving Jaren Hall. Another veteran behind Sam Darnold and Nick Mullens.

This move comes a couple of weeks after rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy tore his meniscus.
Now, Minnesota has three veteran quarterbacks to work with.
Sam Darnold, who is now the starter, has 56 career starts over his first six NFL seasons with most of them coming with the New York Jets.
Behind Darnold, Nick Mullens will provide some more veteran experience.
Mullens, 29, has played for five teams in his seven NFL seasons which means that he has seen a lot in his career.
The former Southern Mississippi star has 20 career starts under his belt and has a career passer rating of 88.1.
But the addition of Rypien is fascinating simply because that adds even more experience to a quarterback room that already has a ton of said experience.
Rypien, the nephew of former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Mark Rypien, is entering his sixth NFL season and is coming off of a 2023 season in which he played for three different teams.
A former Mountain West Conference Player of the Year at Boise State, Rypien likely won’t see a ton of meaningful reps considering he is the third quarterback on the depth chart, but he does provide a nice cushion for head coach Kevin O’Connell and the other quarterbacks.
